Milan hotel close to train to Malpensa

Could anyone recommend an hotel with proximity to the train station and to some of the sites of Milan?
We will travel from Varenna in the morning and have an afternoon and evening to explore a little of Milan, but we need to get to airport by 8:30 a.m.

We got into Milan in the afternoon and left the next morning. We stayed at Hotel Berna (www.hotelberna.com) which was just fine--our room was small but clean and the hotel was within walking distance of the railway station. We took the metro to see the Duomo and took a bus to the airport (we caught it at the train station). For us it worked well because we spent our time sightseeing, not looking for our hotel!

Kathy: I noticed that the subject line of your post is "Milan hotel close to train to Malpensa." There's an important detail that could confuse you: The only train to Malpensa leaves from Milan's Cadorna station. Most people posting here (but not all) choose to take the shuttle bus (one of two shuttle bus companies) to Malpensa from Milan's Centrale station. To summarize: you can either take the train from Cadorna station or the shuttle bus from Centrale station. But if your hotel is located closer to Centrale, you'll be looking for a shuttle bus departing from Centrale, not a train.

I have a room booked the night before our flight out of Milan on April 9 at the Holiday Inn Express - Malpensa. I found it by searching online and the price was reasonable and it's supposed to be fairly new. Hope it pans out
