Milan Hotel and a great day/one night stay in Tuscany Region

Hi everyone---heading to Italy in April for about 10 days. We start our trip in Milan, where we fly into from New York. What are some reasonable hotels that are centrally located to the downtown area and main attractions?

Also, we will be heading to Florence after Milan and are looking at doing a one-day and one-night stay in the Tuscany region. What are some of your favorite spots that we could get to and enjoy in a day. We will be renting a car in Florence and driving to the Tuscany location. Any recommendations on hotels/B&Bs in these places would be much appreciated as well.

Thank you!

In Milan I always stay near the main train station...........because I
take the airport shuttle to the train station.
I have stayed at Hotel Berna and Hotel Garda - both on the same street
a couple of blocks from the train station.
There is a large metro station at the corner and you can get anywhere from
there. I also found Milan very "walkable".

We can highly recommend Hotel Berna on Via Napo Torriano, about 400 meters from the central station. We've stayed there a number of times in the last eight years and will only stay there when we return. The rooms are nice, the employees are friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is the best in Milano.

A nice evening activity is to take your passeggiata, evening stroll, in the Navigli district. It is a gentrified factory canal district that contains clubs, bars, restaurants, bakeries, gelaterias, and a flea market. the area covers three streets that run along the canals.

Buon viaggio,
