Hello All -
We will arrive mid-May on a Saturday morning in Milan...we are scheduled to meet our kids in Nice, Fr sometime on Monday. Should my wife and I stay in Milan Sat & Sun then train to Nice on Monday...or, should we take the train to Genoa on Sunday, spend the night, then train to Nice on Monday...or, is there a recommendation to do something else. We aren't planning to rent a car. Thanks in advance for your kind recommendations.

I would definitely rule out doing the entire trip on Monday.
It's not that bad. There are direct trains from Milan to Ventimiglia taking less than 4 hours. Ventimiglia to Nice then takes 45 min. Only one transfer.
And I do believe that 1.5 days in Milan is worthwhile, so I would not spend a night in Genoa en route.

I would spend the night in Genoa which is much closer to Nice than Milan
