Milan for half day and evening?

We will arrive in Milan at 8:00 am, just for one night. We are staying in walking distance to the train station. Can someone suggest what would be worth seeing just in the afternoon, plus where they enjoyed dinner?

Top site is da Vinci's The Last Supper! Get tickets well in advance. Visit the Duomo and Galleria, La Scala Opera House.

The metro is very handy from the Milano Centrale train station, so you can quickly get to the duomo and other sites. If you’re staying at Hotel Berna, they sold metro tickets in their lobby. I just ate quick food at Milan, so I don’t have any good restaurants to help.

We stayed overnight at Hotel Berna after our Village Italy tour in 2019. We arrived at the hotel late morning and then early the next morning walked over to the train station to catch a bus to Linate airport for our flight home. We had pre-bought tickets to the Last Supper (my confirmation email is from [email protected] and it was 56.50€ for 2). From the hotel we walked to the Duomo and then to the Last Supper. At some point we had a snack at a touristy restaurant that had outside tables overlooking the Duomo. The hotel recommended a lovely restaurant a few blocks away where we ate outside in a small courtyard of a u-shaped building.

If you really need to be speedy, it’s being on the roof of the Duomo that is by far the best part.

We've had trouble finding the kind of restaurant we like in Milan --- lots of "International" and "Italian" restaurants and cuisines from other countries, though. The one we did enjoy was Trattoria da Abele, Via Temperanza, 5 for their risotto. It's about a half-hour walk from Hotel Berna or you could go by metro or streetcar.

Besides the roof of the Duomo and several churches and art galleries, our favorite thing to do in Milan is to walk around inside the monumental cemetery. A quick metro ride from Hotel Berna. Google on it to see if you might like that sort of over-the-top tomb sculptures.

Eataly. Not too far from train station and you will find some great food in your time constraint. It’s like a giant market and we found it wonderful and easy to find good food. I found Milan a little weird to navigate the first day after arriving. I recommend Eataly as an easy way to find great local faire.

As for sightseeing. Last Supper if you can. The Duomo. The Galleria next to the Duomo. Great shopping and people watching around the Duomo. You can visit the flagship stores of major designers if you are so inclined.
