We will be staying in Milan for three nights the first week in July nd wanted to possibly rent an apartment. Looking for recommendations as to what area of Milan might be central to the major sights - Santa Maria Delle Grazie, The Duomo, La Scala, etc. Thanks in advance!

Five years ago, we stayed at Hotel Gran Duca di York. It was on a quiet side street and an easy walk to those sites. Breakfast was fine if I recall correctly. We found it via the RS book.

Milan's metro is excellent, so if you can't stay near the center, make sure your apartment is close to a metro stop. I once made the mistake of choosing a cheaper hotel on the outskirts that was about a 15 block walk to the nearest metro station - never again.
