is there secure luggage storage at the Milan Centrale train station? we arrive there and will be in Milan for just a few hours before heading to our hotel near the Malpensa airport, where we leave the next morning.

Yes. Look for signs to "DEPOSITO BAGAGLI". Opening Hours are 6am to 11pm.
Cost for each piece of luggage is 5 euro for the first 5 hours + 0.70 euro for each additional hour.

In high season, budget at least 20 minutes waiting time to drop off your bags and another 20 minutes to pick up.
