how far from the milan centrale is the last supper and the duomo
Charlotte, I'm not sure about the distance from Milano Centrale to The Last Supper, however the Duomo is only a short trip by Metro (Line 3, direction San Donato).
We did this in October. You can take the Metro from Centrale to the Duomo. Then from the Duomo, change lines to Cadorna Station. You need to walk a few blocks from Cadorna to Santa Maria delle Grazie. You can get walking directions on Google Maps.
Thanks so much for your help. I found your answers to be very helpful. I am traveling to Italy in April of this year. Three girlfriends and myself. We are so excited planning this vacation. We are going to Rome, Florence, Bologna, Venice, Lake Como and Milan for just the day. Our total trip will be 12 days. Again thanks!
Could you please give me an idea about how much the travel time would be between train and Last Supper?
Maybe 10-15 minutes? It was raining and I am not really certain how long the walk was. You come upon the back side of the back side of the building first. It isn't really clear where to go in, but we ended up circling the building to find the door to "Cenacolo" as it is called in Italian.
Laurel, Your a sweet heart for taking the time to answer my questions. You have no idea how helpful you have been in planning our trip.
Thanks.
Laurel, sorry spelled your wrong : (
No problem, Charlotte. FWIW, check out the posting today at www.ItalianNotebook.com. It is about Santa Maria delle Grazie's history. There is a related post from some months ago about the history of "Cenacolo." You might want to subscribe to Italian Notebook. I've learned about a lot of great locations, festivals, and culture.
Charlotte, if you don't have the RS Italy 2011 book, allow me to encourage you to buy it. It's loaded with exactly these sorts of practical details you're asking about. Best wishes.
Also, Charlotte, you need to book a reservation in advance to see the Last Supper, or go on a bus tour to see it, can't just walk in. You're only allowed 15 minutes to see it and the painting opposite , the Crucifixion.
We just purchased our tickets on line to see the Last Supper. We are seeing it on Good Friday. I was very surprised it was open on such a Holy Holiday. It is pretty much booked for the entire day already. We were lucky we booked it this far in advance.
Charlotte....how did you make your reservation for the Last Supper?
We bought our tickets about a month ago. Tickitaly was the website. We are going to Italy this April! Can't Wait.
You can make the reservations online, but I highly recommend calling the number they give. I believe its option 2, but you press the button for an English speaking operator and will get someone who speaks perfect English. Tickets for May 2011 went on sale February 9th at 8am in Italy (2am EST). I went online at 4am EST and there was already no availability for the Sunday we will be in Milan. I immediately called the number and was able to get a reservation for the day we needed.
