Milan Airport/Train Travel

I am flying to Milan, Italy and either meeting family in Florence and picking up cars or continuing on to the Cortona area by train and being picked up there. We all could meet in Florence between one and two pm.
1) Does anyone know how long it is to travel from MXP (airport) to the train station in Milan?

2)AND is it true that the only train from Florence to the Cortona area leaves around 5PM and arrives late in the evening?
