We are arriving Milan airport 4:25 pm June 19, 2018.
I understand that we can catch the Malpensa Express...which takes approx 50 min.
We are hoping to catch a 6:05pm train to Riomaggiore --- are we cutting it too close and should settle for 7:05 pm train but getting us into La Spezia where we will need to taxi to our hotel-- arriving yet later.
Also wondering if there are stations we can get off sooner from the Malpensa Express to catch a train.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Not very practical, you need to go to Centrale. I assume you are flying from elsewhere in the Schengen Zone so have no immigration issues. Are you checking luggage? That adds time as well. I don't think you can reasonably make the 6:05 train, shoot for the 7:05.
If you use this Treniatlia trip planner, http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en
There are some unpleasant (in my mind) alternate routes. One is that the trains into Milan alternate every 15 minutes going to Cadorna station and Centrale. So if you just missed the train to Centrale, you could take the next train to Cadorna, which makes fewer stops so is more like 40 minutes into Milan. Then you have to take the Metro to Centrale station. But there you would be under ground and have to go up several levels to get to the train platforms.
Thank you that is what I thought just needed confirmation.
We are flying from Bordeaux and yes checked luggage.
Should we wait and purchase Malpensa express at air port--I noticed there is a purchase on line option.
I think I should purchase the 7:05 reservations ahead then Milan Centrale to La Spezia --we will be traveling with a 1st class pass and this train required reservations.
Cinque Terre is a challenge to get to from Borfeaux --that is why we are flying to Milan -but I know will be worth it :)
Reservations for IC trains are cheap, like 3 EUR.
If you buy an on-line ticket for the Malpensa Express, it will be valid for 4 hours from the time of the train you picked.
