Milan Airport Strike on Oct. 11

Good morning all, we will be traveling to Italy from Sept. 26-Oct.12 for the first time. Definitely learnt a lot of valuable information from this site!
I read on the Italy strike site that there is a national airline strike on Oct. 11th from 1PM to 5PM. We are flying from Naples to Milan MXP (take off 12:40pm - arrival 14:20pm) on Oct. 11th. Will my plane be affected or not? Should I cancel and re-book for safe? If unfortunately we got impacted by this strike, would the airline move us to next available one? We have to get to Milan that day since we will have a flight from MXP to JFK on Oct. 12th.... Wondering if someone can offer some guidance here. Thank you in advance!

The airport strike at Milan’s airports does not begin until 9 pm on October 11 and ends at 20:59 on October 12. Your flight is on October 11 at 12:40 landing at 14:20. Therefore, your flight falls outside of the timeframe of the airport strike.

However, it sounds as if your Milan-JFK flight on October 12 could potentially be affected.

It's hard to know for sure. It depends to some degree on which unions are striking. There was a strike yesterday (Sep 24) involving multiple unions working at the major Italian airports, including Venice. I think it was different unions at different airports; none of them seemed to be airline unions. I flew home from Venice yesterday without any difficulty. I observed no transatlantic flights marked "Cancelled" on the departure board, but there were quite a few intra-European flights from Venice cancelled yesterday. I'd estimate 1 out of 5 or 1 out of 6.

You also have the option of taking a train. The very fast Freccia trains take as little as 4 hr. 28 min. for the Naples-Milan trip. By the time you deal with getting to and from airports, that's about as fast as flying. There are tickets available on some trains for just under 50 euros. However, this wouldn't help if there are issues at MXP the next day.
