Milan - airport/hotel questions

We have a flight from Milan to the states that leaves at 10:00am
The day before our flight, we plan to get to Milan from Lake Como area and spend the night in Milan to ensure we get to the airport on time.
We wanted to check out the Duomo and eat dinner in Milan before heading to our hotel near the airport. I realized that the hotel is almost 40 minutes from the center of Milan. Is it better to get a hotel in the center of Milan.
What is the best way to get from the center of Milan to the airport area? Train? Taxi?

Assuming you are departing from Malpensa Airport and not from Linate (or Bergamo), I'd Stay near Milano Cadorna station. The train ride is shorter and the area is nicer.

Trains can't get stuck in traffic on the ring road, without mentioning that a taxi costs € 95; but the answer depends on what is "best" for you.

If you wish to stay near MXP, Hotel Villa Malpensa is very near and has a wonderful dining room. We have stayed there several times.

Whether to stay in a hotel in Milan or closer to the airport may depend on your budget. If you want to be right at the airport, it doesn't get any easier than staying at the Malpensa Sheraton. You can walk from the hotel right into the terminal.

You could also stay right in Milan, either near Milano Centrale or Milano Nord Cadorna as mentioned in a previous reply. If you decide to stay near Centrale, there are hotels that are within a five minute walk from the station. Have a look at Hotel Garda or Hotel Bernina. If you decide to stay near Cadorna, one hotel that's reasonably close is London Hotel. I vaguely recall that the rooms were more "basic" but still clean and comfortable. Although it's near Cadorna, it would be a longer walk so with luggage a Taxi to the station would probably be a good idea.

The Malpensa Express is the easiest and quickest option to get to the airport. If staying near Centrale, the travel time is 51 minutes. If staying near Cadorna, the travel time is 37 minutes. Regardless of which station you use, don't forget to validate locally purchased tickets prior to boarding on the day of travel (not applicable for tickets purchased online).
