Milan Airport 3 hour wait for son to arrive

We will land in Milan at 8 am and our son doesn't arrive until 11 am.
We are renting a car and driving to Tremezzo. What can we do for a few hours in the
Milan airport area while we wait for him? Should we head to Saronno and have him take the train there?
Any recommendations are appreciated.
Thank you!

There is very little of interest close to the airport. Saronno doesn't look overly exciting, for instance. If you're flying overnight, I'd just use the three hours to have breakfast, nap a little perhaps (watching your belongings), do some travel planning...

Hi c,

Are you landing at Linate or Malpensa?

One suggestion - If you have a three-hour layover, and you have landed at Malpensa, stay in the airport and have something to eat, browse, people watch. Time will go by fast. The journey in and out of the city center will leave you with about one hour to explore the area.

If you fly into Linate, you can be in Milan in about 30 to 40 minutes by train though, leaving around two hours to explore (Piazza del Duomo - a beautiful, Gothic Cathedral.)

Or, explore Brera http://www.hotelwindsormilan.com/en/a-walk-in-brera-milan-district-of-artists/

I think you should hang around the airport. What if his flight is delayed?

We spend several hours there. We left the lounge because it was crowded and hot. There are a lot of shops to browse and restaurants. Time did go by fast. We window shopped then found a great seafood restaurant and bar. Definitely stay around the airport. Then you can text and coordinate once he lands. I’m pretty sure the airport had free WiFi. It’s Italy, you’ll have fun even in the airport!!!
