Milan - advice 1/2 or 1 day

I have a trip planned in late December for Florence and Venice - flying out of Milan Linate (6am flight). Currently I have 5 nights booked in Venice. My plan was to take a train in the morning the day before my flight, spend part of a day in Milan and then spend the night in an airport hotel.

Now I'm wondering if I should stay with this plan, or instead book 2 nights in Milan. What I am thinking is: check-out of Venice hotel and have them store my luggage for the day. Spend the day in Venice, then take a late afternoon train to Milan. Check into the Milan hotel in the evening. With the change, I could wake up in the morning and head out to see the sites.

Opinions?

I'd ask what day of the week you are planning for your 1/2 or full day in Milan? Mondays seem to be tough as the Last Supper and some museums are closed. If I were going to be there on a Monday, I'd probably go with 1/2 day. If it's not a Monday, I'd take the train the afternoon (or evening if that suits you) before so you have a full day.

Have you decided what might be of interest to you in Milan?

It will be a Thurs, Dec 29th. The Duomo and Last Supper are the two sites I definitely want to see. And open to other sites, time permitting. Should I have any concerns arriving at the central train station in the evening/dark?

I’m not a big fan of Milan, but I loved the Duomo and Last Supper. We did both plus a couple other sites on a walking tour in an afternoon. We arrived in mid morning from Lake Como.

Since you will be coming from Venice, you’ll need to leave early to have enough time for the train and checking into your hotel or dropping off your bags if your room is not ready. If that’s okay with you, a half day will work.

We signed up for the tour because Last Supper tickets were sold out. If you are able to get tickets, you can easily do that plus the Duomo on your own. I was happy with the tour, though, because our guide provided a lot of info on the history of Milan, which we found interesting.

It would certainly not be a mistake to book two nights in Milan. It would be less rushed for sure.

And how about a walk through of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and taking it all in from the Camparino in Galleria while enjoying a Negroni or other libation - beautiful setting.

OR

a stop at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery Milano with it's stunning interior.
