Haven't been to Milan yet. Recommendations on what to see and advice? Thanks
I went to the big cemetery and it was amazing. I spent over an hour there looking at all the amazing tombs. (There is a life size bronze of the Last Supper - that is a tomb for the Pirelli Family (Pirelli Tires) - WOW Cimitero Monumentale ("Monumental Cemetery") is one of the two largest cemeteries in Milan, Italy, the other one being the Cimitero Maggiore. The Monumentale is noted for the abundance of artistic tombs. I took the city bus from downtown near the Duomo and followed the
instructions in Rick Steves' book.
Go to the roof of the Duomo. View is unique and worth the money. If you want to see The Last Supper, reserve in advance. Side trip to Lake Como is worthwhile if you have an extra day.

The Brera Art Gallery, the Castello Sforzesco and the Pinacoteca, the Duomo, the Galleria across the street from the Duomo, Via Montenapoleone. If you go in January or July, great sales on clothing and just about everything else.
Linda, We just returned from Stresa/ Lake Maggiore. It's not far from Milan and is AMAZING!!!! We had been all over Italy and found Stresa much more laid back, EXTREMELY beautiful, less expensive, cleaner and less crowded than any other location. I highly recommend it.
Linda, Milan is not one of my favourites, but it does have it's "charms". A few suggestions.... > Duomo (extra cost to visit the roof, but it's worth it IMO - spectacular architecture and great views) > Galleria Vittorio Emmanuele (be sure to spin the ball of your foot on the crotch of the poor Bull - there's a store called La Rinascente next to the Galleria that has lots of posh shops - keep your credit card at hand - the food court on the top floor is extensive!) > Sforza Castle is worth a visit > The Last Supper (if you're interested - reservations essential) > Lago di Como - as someone else mentioned, you could take a day trip to Varenna and enjoy a few hours of Il dolce far niente). The trip is only about an hour each way from Milano Centrale. You could also take day trips to Stresa or Lugano, which are again only about an hour from Milan. Happy travels!
