Milan 1.5 Days then Back to US

Hello Forum, We will be arriving in Milan from Florence on Sept 17 2019. We have our hotel across the street from Santa Maria della Grazie which, I just found out, is 2 blocks from the Malpensa Express out of Milano Cardona (a big plus). We are signed up for a Milan tour which will includes the big sites and "The Last Supper".

Has anyone stayed in that neighborhood?
Is it relatively safe walking around and to/from the Duomo area?

Any restaurant recommendations within walking distance?

Any must see places that would not be a a typical Milan City tour?

I think you should be fine but others might want to add to this. It is only about 3km from the station to the Duomo. You could take a taxi. You are very near the Castle and should visit if you can, also you will be in the main square and near the Quadrilatero (fashion quad) and the Galleria (shopping mall worth seeing). Teatro alla Scalla (opera house) is also near there.

We found a wonderful restaurant between the church and the Leonardo Science Museum. We showed up at 7 when they opened and got right in. By 8 all of the tables were full. http://www.bebel.it/

Your neighborhood is very upscale, it is a very nice, safe area. Walking to the Duomo is fine.

Second the Babel recommendation. If you like clams, get the spaghetti alle vongole, they are known for it.

Go to the Navigli area for an aperitivo and shopping. It is right off the Porta Genova metro stop. It is especially nice on a sunny day to have a drink along the canals and people watch.

It is a nice neighborhood, do not worry at all. We stayed in that area too one time and liked it.. You can walk or take a tram to the Duomo area.

I agree with everyone else, it's a great neighborhood, very nice! Residential buildings have lovely courtyards, called "cortili", you are very near to Cadorna station, dom where the Malpensa Express departs, and can walk easily to the Duomo and castle, and Sant' Ambrogio basilica. Aldo, be sure to walk Corso Magenta, filled with lovely traditional shops!
