My hubby and I are trying to figure out where to go in mid May. We love to hike, eat and spend time in smaller towns. Maybe rent ebikes one day. Yes, Stanley Tucci! Such an influence. Where do you recommend we head from Orvieto? Over to Umbria? Thanks for your recommendations.

You are spoilt for choice. The Umbria fans will come through soon enough, I know there are tons of options. I've only been in the Marche section of Sibillini national park.
In the opposite direction, the southern Tuscan coast is lovely--hiking and biking in Ucellina park. Etruscan ruins in Sovana, Sorano, Pitigliano. Hot springs at Saturnia. Rocky coves on Monte Argentario. A lagoon with flamingos.

Many thanks! These are some of the top areas we are considering. Southern Tuscany is less visited, correct?

I thought so, was there in late May. Not necessarily in summer, but I think May should be lovely.
