Metro - time to allow to get to Colosseo & Ottaviano stops

Does anyone know how much time we should allow to get from hotel on Via Flavia to the following Metro stops? -Metro B stop "Colosseo" (would like to get there around 8:00-8:10) -Metro A stop "Ottaviano" (would like to get to Viale Vaticano around 7:45-7:50) Is the closest Metro station to a hotel on Via Flavia the Rebubblica station?

The Repubblica station is the one you'd take to go to the Vatican/Ottaviano stop (Metro line A). Well, you have a good bit of walking to do IF you only take the metro...the Rome metro is much more limited in usefulness than, say, the Paris metro. If you use the bus and tram system, then your options increase greatly. It depends on how long it takes you/your party to walk to the 'Reppublica' stop (for the Vatican), then to walk to the 'Termini' or 'Castro Pretorio' stop (for the Colosseum)...The ride after getting onto the metro car is 5, and 2 or 3, stops - then just a couple of minutes for each stop. Go here to see ALL of the maps. Click (on the top center of the page) the arrow next to "buses, tickets, passes, subways" for the route maps. (if there is no "b, t, p, s" on this page, then first hover or click on the 'Italiano' flag then click on the 'English' flag!)

If you give yourself 2-3 minutes for each stop and about 10 minutes for the train change you should have an accurate amount of how long the entire trip will take. I assume that you're going to the Vatican museums. From the Ottaviano stop the walk is about 10 minutes. It's not very long. Donna

For tourists in Rome, the buses usually work out better than the subway, as noted above. And the buses give you the bonus of being able to see stuff in between the stops, instead of being in a tunnel. To get to the Colosseum, you can hop on the #75 bus just a few steps from your hotel. Be sure to have a ticket before you board). Wait at the bus stop on Via XX Settembre (which runs parallel to Via Flavia.) Get on board at the stop across from the big building that's the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The #75 will take you right to the Colosseum. Allow about 30 minutes total. (Will probably take less.) To get to the Vatican (Piazza San Pietro), take the #62 from the same stop on XX Settembre. The catch with this one is that it's a farther walk from the piazza to the Vatican museum than it is from the metro stop to the museum. On the other hand, you're saving steps at the beginning by not having to walk to the metro stop in the first place. RonInRome has an excellent explanation of Rome buses at Roman buses And remember, you can always ask your hotel front desk. Or take a taxi. Should be less than 10 Euros for each trip each way. And you really should take at least one taxi ride while in Rome just for the experience. Happy travels.
