We are leaving our cruise ship in Messina and need to meet up with family in Villa San Giovanni. Can anyone advise the best way to get there taking into account we will have all our luggage with us

Well, it is a 20 minute ferry ride and I suppose your family will meet you at the ferry landing in VSG. Google for schedule and fares. Probably you should take a taxi from the cruise terminal to the ferry.
