This airline has poor reviews on Skytraxx, however, I'm looking at short domestic flights (NAP - MXP), which I assume are not as bad as flying internationally with this airline. Curious if any forum readers have flown this airline and what their thoughts are. There's also the option of EasyJet, which I've done before, but the flight is a little bit more expensive. I know there's the train option, but flying seems to be a quicker way and would allow me to enjoy a little but more time having pizza in Naples (I will be coming from Sorrento).
I’ve flown Meridiana several times, to Sardinia and to Spain (and back to Italy)
Better than most. It’s been at least 6 years though, and since then they had some financial trouble which forced them to scale down.
Now the rich sheiks of Qatar bought the airline (49% of it) and intend to revamp it using their petrodollars.
If the price is good, I would not hesitate to buy it. Especially considering the flight is only 1.5 hrs at most. How bad can it get?
Thanks Roberto. Your point about the length of the flight is exactly the point I was making for justifying the purchase. What I forgot to say is that most of the reviews I saw dealt with massive delays sometimes. We fly out back to the US from MXP the following morning, so there's no question that we have to be in Milan the evening before. I know this risk exists with trains or any other airline. Would you still go for it?
I doubt a delay would be so great that you couldn’t reach Milan on the same day. Of course in winter the Po Valley is subject to fog, but outside of winter what could possibly happen to delay a plane till the next day? But if you feel more comfortable with the train, that can take you to Milan in almost the same time, once you factor in the time necessary for security and boarding airplanes.
