Mercato Carmine Lucca

Mercato Carmine is currently being used as an event space. I don't think it's an actual market at this time. I would also like to know a good place to buy fish.

In 2024 the Mercato building was under construction but there were a couple of small independent fruit stands style on the outer storefront areas.

The main everyday place to buy fruit and veg in town center is Ortofrutta Lucca Centro P.za del Salvatore, 5.
The nearby bakery Forno a vapore Amedeo Giusti is great and across the street Antica Bottega di Prospero is a great place to look for sauces and more esoteric stuff.
The nonnas run Forno Alimentari G.Giurlani and it's a great place for meats, cheeses, pesto, pasta etc.

There are many places to get meat but for fish you would probably have to travel outside the city walls. There are markets just outside the city walls on a regular basis and that's probably your best bet for fish merchants.

Lucca deserves a good market place but for whatever reason Mercato Carmine just seems to refuse to go.

But always look at local posters for the latest. Italians are terrible at advertising events that are coming up but great at documenting what you missed.
