Merano

Merano, an Alpine town in South Tyrol Region, looks interesting with its spas, Art Nouveau buildings and river / mountain venues.

Looking for feedback on fun things to do, 3* hotels, and good value restaurants/ bars. Interested in architecture, walks, food, wine, easy hikes, photo ops, viewpoints, ....... . Shopping not a priority.

Does three days with a daytrip to Bolzano sound about right?

Thanks

I spent four nights there, and really enjoyed it. Walked the Promenades beside the beautiful Passer River, walked one of the Waalweg trails, through vineyards and apple orchards, to the Gardens at Trautmannsdorf Castle (spectacular gardens, spent 5 or 6 hours there), and used the excellent bus system to go visit Kurtzras, a tiny town just south of the Austrian border, also a great starting point for hikes, plus there's a cable car up the mountain.

Agreed that Merano is an excellent destination, but not too early. I suggest after mid-May.
