I'm sure somewhere this has been covered...we will be in Italy Sept 16-29...trying to pack light for husband, khaki pants? I know jeans are a no-no and too heavy anyways..what are some of the best light weight slacks around? Oh and what about shorts (nice khaki shorts I mean)...
Recently weather in Italy has been in the 100's, so before you pack anything consult the forecast on the weather channel website. I was in Italy at the same time a couple years ago and it was in mid-high 70's. Lots of people were wearing jeans, khakis would be OK too. Lots of women in nice lightweight dresses/skirts. If you will be in towns and cities, unless it is extremely warm, I would not bring shorts for men or women. Italy is full of churches with great art, if you want to go into them you cannot wear shorts --men or women -- and shoulders must be covered. Some of them enforce this dress code.
You can go into churches with shorts on - I was in Santa Croce just the other day (and it has been 100 here!). I think the bigger places, especially in the summer, are really not too strict on that rule anymore.
Jo, Linen-rayon-polyester blends are lightweight and comfortable. So are polyester-viscose blends. Dockers, Haggar, and Savane all make nice ones. For super lightweight, Ex Officio makes nylon travel pants that wash easily, dry quickly and are cool to wear. They need to be bought at a specialty store or ordered online. The blended-fabric pants can be bought in any department store or men's clothing store. I carry both the blends and the Ex Officio. As for khaki pants, I do not travel in them because they show wrinkles and are not cool in hot conditions.
Jo,
I use These products extensively when travelling. They're designed to be durable and easily washed in a Hotel room sink. They have products in several different fabrics, so it should be easy to find something suitable.]
You could also check the Magellan's website, as they sell travel clothing.
Happy travels!
