men's travel wallets

I don't think I can get my husband into a money belt, so have been looking at wallets with a clip to hold onto a waistband or belt (inside your pants) or those with a loop that goes around your belt or belt loop. I like the Security Clip Leather Wallet by Civilian. Does anyone have experience with these or a favorite you can recommend?

Does this work okay with jeans or do you need to be wearing something with a little more room?

I use a silk (Rick Steves) neck wallet. It is thin and comfortable. Having your stuff hanging around your neck is more convenient than digging in your pants for your money belt (and less embarrassing).

I tend to go back and forth from a neck pouch to a money belt.

I think I'll try a leg wallet next. It's straps around your leg just below the knee. It probably won't help much if you're wearing shorts but other than that seems like a pretty good idea. I noticed one for sale during a recent visit to AAA to get passport photos.

Just to sure you are carrying all the important family papers, including his passport, in your money belt. Some of this is learned behavior. Had a close friend who made light of our obsession with money belts. After all he had made four trips to Europe, keeps everything in a front pocket -- after all, "No one can get to my front pocket without my knowing it." On his fifth trip, he lost it all in the Paris train station. And I mean everything - including his wife's passport. For his sixth trip last year both he and his wife wore money belts. And I have never said anything.

Frank -- you are so right.

I wear my money belt without fail. I even start wearing it 4 or 5 days before my trip starts so I'm used to it, and won't fidget with it when I get there. My wife uses a traditional money belt, but prefers to wear it in the back (below belt level, under pants, doesn't bind up when she sits down... she's small...).

I do, however, carry a small Fossil brand front-pocket wallet for my convenience items. In it I carry 1 credit card, a tiny card with phone numbers, hotel names, and such, and about 150 Euros.

Tells them exact where you wallet is. Forget the chain. Just bury it behind a well concealed pocket.

Cindy,

I decided to try one of the PacSafe Wallets on my last trip, and didn't have any problems with the chain.

I wasn't too concerned about "advertising the location" of the Wallet, as I tend to only use it for daily expenses anyway, so it rarely contains a huge amount of cash.

Cindy, If Ken hadn't already written it, I would have said exactly what he did.

While my main "stuff" is in my moneybelt, my daily cash, ATM card (when needed), coins, and a credit card are in the Pacsafe wallet. And it goes into my front pocket. The chain isn't that obvious and would actually be a deterrent to a thief. Why hassle with a chain where there are plenty of people who carry their wallet without being aware of their surroundings. Pickpockets want easy prey, not a challenge.

Magellan now sells a different brand with a retractable cord only I don't know what the cord is made of.

You can get a leg safe. It straps around your ankle so it is covered by your pants. My sister wore one and loved it. She kept a small amount of money in her pocket and when she needed more or knew she would need a credit card she went to the restroom to take some out. Never had a problem and didn't worry about pickpockets.

I just wanted to thank each of you for your wisdom and advice - including those of you who sent me private messages. My husband ordered a Pacsafe Coversafe 150 wallet (with the tab that slips on your belt and then flips over into your pants), a nylon web money belt (he likes it better than the leather money belts - more casual), and a neck pouch. So! I guess we're all set! I appreciate the advice to bring pants other than blue jeans, so he's bringing one pair of zip-off hiking pants. But the jeans will still come with.

I'm carrying a cross-body purse that's small, just for a travel guide, camera, and sunglasses. I guess the pickpockets will have to strip him down to get anything very valuable!! Again, thanks to each of you for your time in giving me your advice and thoughts!!!
