Men’s suits in rome

Hi all,

We’re heading to Rome Saturday and am wondering if anyone knows a tailor that does custom suits there. Any info would be helpful.

Thank you

You might want to contact Bassetti’s in Rome. It is a huge fabric store and they have an entire room devoted to men’s suiting. I have seen men in there with their tailors picking out fabric. I am sure they could put you in touch with a good tailor.

The only problem with tailored suits is the multiple fitting process. Initially, you are measured completely for the suit; you then choose the style and the fabric (this takes the longest time) and you pay part of the price and go away.

Then, a week or so later, if you are lucky, you get to go back for a fitting. The tailor will take that little piece of chalk and mark all the places where the suit will need to be adjusted. You will be offered some coffee or a glass of prosecco, and you will be given another time to come back for a second fitting.

The second fitting will generally take much less time than the initial measuring and the first fitting, and you should be in and out in less than an hour.

Then you go away, and within a day or so, you go back for a final fitting and assuming everything is okey-dokey, you can take the suit away when you pay the balance. Sometimes minor adjustments need to be made, but these can be made on the spot.

Time is the issue. If you have a couple weeks, you might leave happy with a 100% Italian tailored suit. If your time is short, however, you may be disappointed. If you are easy to fit, you may want to check out off the rack suits. Sometimes you might get lucky.
