Meeting point in Marco Polo Airport (Venice)

Hello! This forum has been so helpful in planning my vacation, what did people do before the internet?

My daughter and I are flying from different parts of the world and will meet at the airport to start our Italy vacation. I am flying in from the US. My final leg is from Zurich on Swiss Air, arriving at 10 am. My daughter is coming from Grenada, her final leg is from London on British Airways arriving at noon. She does not have a working cell phone, so we need a rendezvous point at the airport (I'll just hang out till she gets there). Suggestions please? Thank you.

Will you be spending your first night in Venice? If so, I suggest you meet at your hotel. The reason is that any flights can get delayed or cancelled. Since you both have transfers along the line, that just gives more of a chance (though small) of a missed connection, late departure for some reason, weather diversion, etc. If both of you can get to the hotel independently then communication will be easier than someone waiting for someone else in the airport.

Will she have a mobile device with wifi? We (brother, SIL, nephew and I) successfully used the What'sApp app to text each other when we had wifi connections. I am NOT a technology expert, so it was the nephew that got us to load up this app to communicate with him when he was in Spain, parents and I in Ireland and US.

Hi Pam - yes, we'll both have mobile devices, and we do use Whats App now, but she seemed to think wifi wasn't as common there as in the US. (She went to New Zealand last year and barely had access).

I like the idea of waiting at the bar, (thanks Sam) at least until noon-ish, and then have the alternate plan of meeting at the hotel if her plane is delayed. And if mine gets delayed she can do the same. It looks like a small airport, am I seeing that right?

It is a small airport. Wifi is very common in Italy - at the airport you may need a password to log in, the customer service can give it to you if needed.

Yes, that sounds like it will work as long as both of you have the hotel and transport information and a plan for how long you will wait. She sounds like a seasoned traveler as well, so that is good. Whoever gets there first can get the tickets for your water transportation assuming they know the other is on the plane, lol.
