Flying from USA into FCO a few hours before son flies in from LHR. Would like to meet up with him at airport, hopefully before immigration/customs. Any suggested easy to find meeting places pre- and post- secured areas?

That might not be possible. First, you have to go immigrations since you are arriving from the US. He will not IF he is only catching a flight from LHR and you could be using different terminals.
