Mediterranean beaches

Hi all,
While in Italy my family would love to go to a beach on the Mediterranean. I wasn't planning on a beach because our main focus is Rome and Venice....so does anyone have any advice how I could swing that? We have 7 days in Italy and (as of now) we'll be traveling by train. I am particularly interested in "blue flag" beaches. Thank you!

There's also Ostia Lido for when you're in Rome. About an hour away by train.

You're only a short vaporetto ride from the Lido in Venice. That would be your best shot as far as not losing much to travel time.

The 2 times I have stayed near Venice I was in Cavallino Treporti to be near my friend there. I was there in September and the water was warm enough to go swimming. Sort of quiet beach town area. Take a boat from St. Mark's to Punta Sabbioni...then short bus ride maybe 10 minutes. Pretty popular area with the Germans on vacation.

I'm not a big fan of the Adriatic, especially so far north. If can take a whole day I would go from Rome to Sperlonga. You take the train from Rome to Fondi and right outside the train station there is the blue bus that takes you to Sperlonga. The town itself is lovely, but the water is clear and great for swimming, and the beaches are nice and sandy. It has always been one of my favorite places to go to the beach, and its easier doing it by bus as the times I have gone with the car finding parking has been difficult.
