Have been in London for 4 days & heading over to Rome day after tomorrow. I need medication for a UTI which has developed. I will not be home for 17 days so really need to treat before then. I would be able to a show a pharmacist a list of recently filled prescriptions which includes a recent course of Ampicillin. Any chance a Chemist in London or Rome would assist or should I go to a walk -in clinic ?
Thanks
Terri
Go to a farmacia and ask.
Italian name is
AMPICILLINA
The most common brand name is
Amplital
UTI= Infezione Tratto Urinario
A doctor’s prescription is necessary, but maybe if you show you have one from your doctor at home, the pharmacist might make an exception. Give it a try. Sometimes some Italian pharmacists do funny stuff.
So sorry Terri. I know that is not fun on vacation. When we were in Italy in 2016, I followed Rick's advice & went to a Farmicia. As he said, there was a female pharmacist that discreetly helped me. I told her my symptoms and she guided me to Cisti Gelar Urto. My symptoms were mild so she suggested Cisti Gelar 1. I think there were different levels. It is an all-natural powder that you mix in a glass of water. It doesn't taste great, but it seemed to work on some of the symptoms. We always travel with antibiotics (Cipro) so between the two, all was well. I think you may be okay going to a Farmicia first. If not, then you could try to find a walk-in clinic.
It wasn't a fun time, but I was so glad for Rick's advice. Good luck!
In the UK, antibiotics are only available with a doctor’s prescription, so you will not get these from a pharmacy. There are numerous clinics - you don’t say which part of London you are staying in.
Thanks! That helps!
