May Day in Siena?

My husband and I are in Florence (loving it!), but plan to visit Siena tomorrow and return to Florence. We wanted to take a bus, but are concerned that the schedules and certain sites in Siena might be affected by the holiday. Will we have any problems? Advice appreciated.

The travel schedules will be Sunday/holiday schedules, I assume, so might be more limited. Try to get the direct quite-express bus, about an hour as I remember.

My tips for Siena, Debbie:
1. Try to stay into the evening, rather than be a typical daytripper who arrives mid-morning and leaves mid-afternoon. During the day I found Siena busy and congested, and I thought: "so what's the big deal here?", but as the sun went down and the crowds thinned out, as the public buildings were illuminated, Siena turned magical.
2. The Duomo complex of several buildings is beautiful, it's one of those I could photograph all day long, from various angles and varying light, like in Florence or Orvieto. You can climb the "facciarole (sp?) for great views of the Duomo and the city; I was told it was an easier climb for equal or better views, than the tower at the Campo. When I was there they were operating a special tour up to the inside of the Duomo's roof, looking down on the wonderful interior and floor, first time it had been open in 700 years. Extra cost, about 25 euros, and advanced reservations were needed, so it might call for real luck to get onto that on short notice.
3. I loved having a drink and a light supper at the edge of the Campo, almost empty in the early evening, unlike during the day.
Enjoy Debbie, and happy holiday! inshallah, I will arrive in Palermo in the middle of the May 1 holiday myself, after a lot longer than a 1-hour bus ride!

The bus schedules are more than limited tomorrow. No buses running. So we booked train tickets. Never realized May Day was such a big deal in Italy! The party has begun. May as well join it and have fun.
