May 26 Strike & FrecciaRossa

Hello Travelers -

I've read the various threads here about assorted transportation strikes, and have understood generally that the FrecciaRossa trains are rarely affected by said strikes.

I have discovered that our FrecciaRossa 9433 from Venezia to Firenze does NOT appear on the TrenItalia website list of routes that are guaranteed to go in the event of a strike. There is no notice to me in the app or on my customer area of the TrenItalia website that these tickets are in jeopardy, and they're still available for purchase generally.

I do see an earlier FrecciaRossa that looks to go through Firenze, and that route is on the list of routes that are guaranteed to go on our date.

Does this mean that our most prudent option is to get to the station a couple of hours earlier to hop on that earlier FrecciaRossa? Of course we have the prepaid, super economy fares but based on the information in this forum I think they'll let us on the earlier train during a strike so long as there is room.

I see a number of Italo trains making the run on that date as well. Is it accurate that the May 26 strike will NOT affect those Italo trains at all? I'm not well versed enough on whether the workers striking this time also impact the privately owned Italo trains.

Long story short: we can't hold over in Venice as a party of 4, and we have morning Duomo climb tickets in Firenze on 5/27. I want to better understand my options so I can make an informed decision. If we are in trouble, we won't be alone and I want to stay a step ahead of the hordes where possible.

Thank you in advance for your help!

DO NOT hop on any train (Regionale exception) without a proper ticket and seat reservation. Go to a ticket window and exchange your ticket for a correct ticket. Generally, not always, there is a lot of talks about strikes but seldom do they materialize. You need to be flexible.

@Frank Thank you for your prompt response. I appreciate it, and wanted to clarify that hop on was a misuse of language. We would never do any hopping on without first consulting someone for the proper ticketing.

I've been affected by strikes frequently since I spend a lot of time (1/2 year) in Italy. Usually it is the regional trains and the buses but last month some of the high speed trains (trenitalia) were canceled which surprised me. Some strikes are quite specific (just in Emilia Romagna for example) so it really depends on who is striking.
