Our itinerary currently has us staying in Pesaro for 4 days. Has anyone been here for that length of time and at that time of year? If so, what were the best excursions for those who enjoy culture and nature but do not spend hours in museums and churches? Thanks.
I assume you will have a car? The park just north of Pesaro, San Bartolo, is gorgeous.
To the south of Ancona, Monte Conero.
I stayed in Senigallia, also well worth a stop.
Plenty of parkland inland as well if you intend to travel that far--I'd ass Frassasi caves to the list if you are inclined.
There is a marathon and half marathon in May and I've been there for that. Fano is beautiful and is a short train ride away. Pergola can be reached by bus and the bronze statues are amazing that were discovered by chance in a farmers fields. We ran through some beautiful small towns. I have been in Pesaro 3 times in May.
Do not miss Urbino (reached by bus from the train station). It's a World Heritage Site, a town of the Renaissance. Walk up Via Raffaello to the fortezza park at the top. Along the way, stop in at the Castelli di Aria shop, even if you're not a shopper. See the ducal palace.
