May 2020 in Amalfi Coast/Sorrento: weather & lodging

Hi, already planning for NEXT year. Wondering how AC/Sorrento is in May, regarding heat and crowds? Would like to benefit from all of your experiences.

Also, would like to stay in Sorrento in town, at a place with a view/balcony and breakfast. Who knows when we'll be back, so want a quality lodging. We'll pay a decent price if it's magical! Any recommendations?

Beginning May or end of May?
That may make a difference in terms of temperatures.
But even the end of May shouldn’t be unbearably hot. Last time I was there was very early June and it wasn’t bad at all, however it’s hard to predict from year to year. Check forecast just before going.
Weekends and holidays tend to be crowded with more visitors, but midweek it was ok.

We were on the Amalfi Coast the first week of May in 2017. The weather was very pleasant--we would start and end the day with a light jacket, and mid-day we were comfortable, usually in long sleeves, but short sleeves were fine in the sun. Evenings were cool. We used Positano as our base for 4 nights, so I can't comment on Sorrento accommodations. There were plenty of people but the crowds were not unpleasant. Parking was very difficult, so I would avoid driving to Positano, Amalfi, or Ravello. We primarily used the ferries.

I don't mean to be annoyingly technical, but Sorrento is the last town before you turn the corner onto the actual Amalfi Coast. Sorrento is on the Gulf of Naples. It's the "last" town you can get to by train, before Salerno, at the other end of the Amalfi Coast. it's a popular destination. I thought a premium room at the Ambasciatori was magical, but few posters on this board are willing to pay the price. And there can be seagull poop if you have a (premium) balcony! Ambasciatori is in a group of five luxury, large hotels. Most posters here stay in smaller places. But the big hotels are right on the cliff, and have elevators to private swimming platforms (boardwalks, NOT beaches) on the Gulf.

We were the last week in may. It was very hot in the daytim, but pleasant at night, and there were too many people waiting for the bus to Positano to fit onto the next half-hourly public (SITA) bus. Enough said?

Hello! I can not recommend Villa Monica B&B enough. It's just my favorite lodging in the world!
You could check out reviews and see if it's the right place for you.
Enjoy the planning stage!
