We have never been in Italy on May 1st.
We find ourselves having to take a train to Verona from Venice on this holiday.
I am assuming the trains run on this day??
Also would taxi's be available from the station in Verona?

Trains running on reduced Sunday/holiday schedule
Taxies available, in some cities public transportation may be severely reduced or suspended (once common, now infrequent)
Most restaurants open but reserve as it is a festive day and many Italians will be around
