May 1 in Rome?

it looks like most sites are closed this day. does anyone have suggestions on places that are open then? a nice walk around the city would not be a bad thing, but having options is always good. But, even if everything is closed, you are still in Rome!

Villa Adriana (Hadrian's Villa) is open on Monday's, check their website. It is a ways east of Rome but a nice place to visit. Very impressive.

I am having the same problem! I will watch your post for some ideas. I was thinking of doing a day trip out to Orvieto. I have on one website for tours that Ostia Antica is open (but I wouldn't do a tour). I think I will have to wait until we arrive in Rome to get an update from the Tourist Information about what is open.

Orvieto may be a good idea. I think trains from Termini leave for there in the morning-if one comes back in late afternoon, that would make a nice day trip & leave time for an evening "Heart of Rome" walk. Even if that didn't pan out, wandering Rome at a leisurely pace is not a bad thing. It might be a nice break from the intensive museo-gawking!

Ah, Michael, I've been to the concert... and won't go back!
What a horde of people. They close the metro stations in the area so you have to walk in about 10+ blocks... and it's very crowded!

One thing to also consider when traveling on may 1 is that the buses, metro and trains will be on EXTREME holiday schedule!
One May 1st, we waited 90 minutes for a bus, gave up and walked 2.5 miles into town... and still never saw a bus...
So know that public transport options are quite limited...

Ron! So great to hear from you again. Chuck, pay attention to what Ron says. The man knows Italy. Check out his website at Roninrome.com for more info.

It seems like May 1st would be the day to do some walking around the Eternal City. I have looked around on RoninRome.com-very good site with much information and well written! Thank you, Ron for that. Even if you don't consider yourself a good photographer, you sure can pick some nice ones for the site. You do know Rome and I hope you get back there very soon.
Michael, thank you for the concert suggestion, but that's not for us. Although the music might be good, being jammed in a teeming mass of sweaty humans is not my cup of tea. Back in the day, it was a different story, but not now. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate that day and we can spend it outdoors. Ron's site suggestion of the aqueduct park or Aventine Hill sound good and definitely a nighttime walk is in the plan. We'll enjoy the day regardless. Maybe a nice winey picnic..
