May 1 in Rome

We will be in Rome on May 1 and wonder if everything will be closed. Looking at some of the Museum websites, they do not mention being closed. Does anyone know if everything closes on Labor Day? Thank you

Do they mention being closed on other days, like December 25 and January 1st? When May 1 is not listed among the closing days, there are 2 possibilities: Either Webmasters in Rome have a sick sense of humor or those places are open on May 1.

For instance the site of Castel Sant'Angelo explicitly mentions they are closed on May 1, December 25 and January 1st.

All buses and metro trains will run on the reduced festive schedules; because of the concert the Metro station of San Giovanni will be closed and all buses going there will be overcrowded with teens. Not the kind of cultural experience you want to have.

We were in Rome on May 1, 2015. The Roman Forum was closed off as were several other venues but I can’t remember which ones. It seems we had to switch around our activities for the day preceding.

Thank you, Dario and Kathy. Some sites mention when they are closed and some don't, which is why I was wondering. Dario, thank you for the heads up on the concert!

Yes, count on many things being closed. One year, we waited on Via Cassia for almost an hour for a bus... then started hiking to town. Do count on the busses being on the most-relaxed holiday schedule. A different May 1st, we did go to the San Giovanni concert, where you had to get off the metro two stops away. As Dario says, it was not our "scene," but it was an interesting experience.

I just looked at the coopculture site for Colosseum/Palatine/Forum tickets, and it only lists January 1st and December 25th as closure days BUT it's a little foggy 'cause they also only list open hours through Feb. 28th. I'd keep an eye on that one to see if May 1 is added to closure days when they update to reflect longer summer hours.

Vatican Museums are closed but May 1 is a Sunday this year and that's their normal closure day.

Galleria Borgese's site lists 1st January and 25th December as their closure days, along with Mondays so will be open. Also, the ticketing page shows tickets available for that day. I'd jump on these if interested in seeing this one.

National Museum of Rome listed as open:

Capitoline Museums and Castel Sant'Angelo are listed as closed.
