May 1 in Italy travel

Hello, I will be landing in Milan on May 1, which I have discovered is a public holiday in Italy. I was planning to take the airport express to Cadorno Station and then the M1 red line to a station close to where I will be staying, but now I'm wondering if it will be easier to just get a taxi from Cadorno. Will the Metro be extremely crowded, making traveling with luggage difficult? Does anyone have any experience traveling on the Milan Metro on May 1?

No experience with Milan but have been in Rome twice over May 1 and didn't notice a lot of difference when we were in Rome. It is always crowded. I think you will be fine.
