Maximum Amount of Withdrawal from ATM

Anyone know the maximum amount of euro I can withdraw from the ATM in Italy? France? Do they show you the limit from the ATM machine?
Your help are very appreciated.

Rick, The lower of the ATM limit or your banks limit. Not necessarily but they should give you an option on some default amounts. If you try to type in a higher amount the ATM may or may not accept it even though your bank is ok with it and it may also trigger a freeze on your ATM card. The ones I have used go as low as 200 Euros and up to amounts in excess of 600 Euros per withdrawal. You can also do several withdrawals of several hour Euros although you might get hit with a transaction fee for each one. Edwin

I believe most of them I remember from last summer were at a 300 euro limit. But if your bank's limit is lower, then that can cause problems.

It varies by bank, not by country. I've seen as high as five hundred on the 'pick how much' preselects on the screen. Can't remember seeing a stated limit (never pull that much at one time), but it's going to tell you if you try to bust it. If you don't get enough, get some more in the next block.

I think you need to set a limit for what you can withdraw daily at your bank before you leave. My mom had set a limit for her bank at $300 and she was stopped from getting $400 years ago. I'd talk to your bank before leaving home. I always tell my bank I will be out of the country, where I will be, and the dates I will be away. I don't know if this is necessary, but when my husband wallet was pick pocketted in Switzerland, I had trouble withdrawing money we needed using my ATM card, so I make a habit of stopping by my bank before a trip.

Two kinds of limits - single transaction at the ATM and a 24 hour limitation set by your bank/credit union. In some high tourist areas, on the weekends, it is not uncommon to have a single transaction of limit of 250E or 300E at the ATM simply to keep it from being drained of cash in a short period of times. Other times and locations no limit. I have withdraw as much as 750E from an ATM attached to a bank during a week day. If you need more than the limit on the machine just go to another ATM or make a second withdraw from the same ATM. If you ask for more than the limit you get a message saying something to the effect that the transaction is denied. Lower the request and try again. There is no risk that you card would be eaten or blocked because you asked for too much. The other limit, of course, is the limited imposed by your bank for withdraws in a 24 hour period. Some banks will limit you to two or three withdraws and a dollar max in a 24 hour time period generally midnight to midnight where your bank is located. Check with your bank for this limit. And sometimes it can be changed. No, they do not show the limit for the ATM. It just doesn't work.

Be sure to tell your bank that you'll be traveling. Often, they'll increase your ATM withdrawal limit if you ask. But the limit for ATMs in Europe depends on the banks there. I have the best luck at ATMs attached to real banks.

I've gotten as high as 500 euro and as low as 250 euro on the same atm card, different machines. Never really bothered to find out why there's such a big difference between them.
