Matera underground pool

Does anyone know if the underground pool in Matera (in the Locanda di San Martino hotel & spa) is open to kids? The hotel website is unclear and they haven't replied to my e-mail.

Nate, have you looked at this page of the hotel's website?

http://www.locandadisanmartino.it/en/termae-romanae-3/

This is what it says about the pool:

"We would like to remind you that according to the Health Regulation, the use of a bathing cap in the swimming pool is mandatory, even for bald people, and due to the peculiar shape of the pool we have been required to forbid minors under age 18 from utilizing it, even if they are accompanied or experienced swimmers."

Also be aware of the extra cost:
ENTRANCE FEES (includes use of bathrobe and swimming cap)
€ 20 Locanda’s guests
€ 25 external guests

Other regulations:

Interesting about the swim cap regulation.

The model in the photos seems to have forgotten hers!

I noticed that too, Joe! 🙄
The swim cap requirement isn't all that unusual for pools in Italy, though.

We stayed there over the Summer this past June/July. The underground pool is not your typical hotel pool. It is more of a spa/relaxation experience. We were even told to keep it down at one point as everything echos pretty loudly in there being a cave and all. It is a great relaxing time though but I would not suggest it for kids anyways. The beach is also not to far depending on time of year you go. The hotel staff is great and you cannot beat the location. Matera is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.

I've heard that, and it's sadly still on my list to see! Yep, I got the feeling from the website that the pool area is VERY much the adult-spa sort so not a place for children even if they did allow it.

Does anyone know if the hotel has swim caps? I haven’t seen or used one in 60 years.
The pool sounds wonderful after a long day walking around Matera. It’s on my to do list for the South of Italy tour free evening.
Thanks for the post.

Edit: thanks everyone. I missed the part that the hotel provides swim caps.

Yes. Reference the copy/paste from the hotel's website in my first post above. Also reference my link to other regulations regarding use of the pool.

We’re staying here on our RS South of Italy tour. Spa’s website doesn’t mention swimsuit just wrapping in a towel. Birthday suit, swimsuit which I hadn’t planned to take, or shorts and tank top?

Lol, horsewoofie! In the link for other regulations Kathy posted, it does mention no entry without swimsuit. :) Or rubber sandals.

Well dang, I was looking forward to skinny dipping.

Black undies and black camisole look like a tankini but I guess I should throw a bikini into my suitcase. Or I should just rethink the spa idea and have a(nother) glass of wine instead.
