Matera hotels

Hi - we are a couple in sixties and are going to be in Matera for 2 days in June and wanted some advice on hotels and parking. We are think of Angelo San metera (parking 20€) , Vetera metera (parking 50€) or Eurosuite.
Vetera has only just opened but for some reason the parking is 50€. Does anyone have any thoughts about the hotels and the parking - is there alternative parking possible?
Thanks

50 euro a day is too expensive.

Are you going this month?

You can check online for parking garages in Matera. They will be a long walk from the sassi, but some hotels offer free shuttle service from the hotel to parking.

There is no hotel with the name of Angelo San Matera that I could find. The other is a Relays Chateaux hotel; IIf you want to go high end, I would HIGHLY recommend SEXTANTIO GROTTA CIVITA which, to my mind, is by far the finest hotel, and experiencer, in Matera.

The biggest decisions are these:

  1. Do you want to stay in the sassi, or in the upper town?
  2. Do you want to stay in a "cave" room?

Hi, I was just in Matera last month. Here’s the info I shared. I absolutely loved this option for a place to stay! They had a few cars parked there, too. I booked directly with the B&B.

“i chose my dates for Matera based on the availability of a special B&B, Palazzo Degli Abati. While I was on the fence about coming to this city, this B&B was definitely the tipping point. Being there, it was absolutely perfect! I reserved directly with them, selecting the Junior Suite in Grotta - Senza Nidd. I slept in a cave! ; ) I liked that the historical story of the Senza Nidd family who lived in my room was shared when I arrived, along with a nice explanation of how to navigate the city in an easy manner. (I only needed to pull out Google maps once while spending the afternoon out walking.) My cave room was tastefully decorated & comfortable and didn’t feel claustrophobic. The private lounging area outside my door was lovely, too. Above my room their breakfast area/tiny restaurant provided a stellar ledge viewpoint experience!”

We paid nothing but it was several years ago and not summer, so maybe dedicated parking is more of a requirement now. However, after determining what you want out of a hotel and in what location, consider your basic needs in terms of how close to the hotel you need to be beyond checkin/checkout -- will you be coming and going on many day trips? Can you manage your bags on your own, etc. Some will allow you to unload your bags before parking I would think.
With so many excellent hotels, I surely would not pay 50€ per day!

My point is that if a RelaisChateaux hotel is in your budget then you have the budget for SEXTANTIO I’ve stayed in many great hotels in Italy and a few in Matera and my experience in that hotel is at the top of my own list.

Thank you - the price
For
Vetera Matera and Sextantio are quite similar. Vetera is a new hotel that has just opened so we thought everything will be new. But their parking is 50€.
Unsure whether we should stay in upper town or Sassi, and indeed a cave room. Thank you for your experience with Sextantio which clearly was excellent.
If we park in a car park ourselves how do we get to the hotel- can we get a cab? Or are there free shuttles?
Many thanks
