Confusing info about masks being required onboard United flights to Rome from US. Has anyone flown this route recently or know the situation for sure? Thanks!
Bring a supply of masks with you regardless the rules and use them as needed.
Currently, masks are needed when traveling to Italy. Since the U.S. Covid testing requirement has not yet been lifted to return, it’s probably a good idea to wear them even if Italy lifts their mask mandate on the plane.
Airplanes are like cruise ships: they are the top breeding grounds of every “bug” you care to list. I will be flying next month….and I will DEFINITELY be masked!
The United States Supreme court just doesn't count in Italy. Got off a flight 16 days ago. Still crying.
I just checked in for my United flight to Rome tomorrow.
My check in info indicates that masks will be required to and from Italy. (N95/94/FFP2)
We planned to wear anyway.
We flew into Florence yesterday from the US. Masks were required on all flights.
I just flew into Italy from London. Not only are masks required, they must be N95 or equivalent. This is also true for all public transportation. I think you must also wear a mask indoors, but this seems more lenient, depending on where you are and who is enforcing.
So KN95 is not acceptable?
N95, KN95, FFP2
Is there any difference in these?
What is approved?
Also, I’m reading that Italy will end the mask requirement on public transportation on May 1. Flights to UK and other countries no longer require masks.
We are flying American Airlines. Per their website KN95 masks are acceptable on their flights. You may want to check with your airline to see what is acceptable. We are taking/wearing KN95 masks to Italy.
We wore KN95 on our flight yesterday and it was fine. They airline personnel prefer not to accept those surgical type you see in US. One flight allowed a person with the surgical type, the other flight had FFP2 that they handed out to exchange. Additionally, Rome airport was 100% masks yesterday and personnel approached anyone not with a reminder.
Did this just change again? My Delta flight from JFK to Rome, on 4/20 to 4/21, did not require masks. However they are required in the airport and everywhere inside in Italy.
Update
We flew United to Rome last night ( from Dulles)
Masks are required on all flights to Italy, this is an Italian govt requirement,
Masks also required at FCO
AS above N95 or equivalent and it was enforced inflight
Just a note about the PLF
We were “ travel ready” had everything uploaded already but I carried paper copies as well
Nobody asked to see the PLF
the FA at gate did announce that they would ask to see it in Rome
Nobody did
We landed at 8:55 and were in a cab ( driver masked) on our way to Rome about 9:45 with our checked luggage!
Could not believe how fast/ efficient it was, dozens of passport scanners/ facial recognition, etc
