Marzamemi, Sicily

Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone here has been to Marzamemi, Sicily (Southeastern Sicily) and what you thought about it. Thank you!

I went to Marzamemi this past March. I have always seen such pretty quaint photos of the seaside piazza in Marzamemi on Instagram. We spent a day with a driver who picked us up at. our BnB in Ortigia and we went to Noto, Ispica and Marzamemi. It was mid March and a cool rainy overcast day. Most places around the piazza and in town were closed. Not many people about and almost no tourists. We got some fried fish from a little nearby stand. Due to the dreariness of the day it was not very colorful as the flowers were not yet in bloom and most places were shuttered closed. We did visit the Campisi typical Sicilian products store which had lots of canned and pickled fish products, pastas, etc. We also had delicious gelatto at Don Peppinu gelatteria. What time of year are you planning to visit? If off season, I would probably skip it unless going on a weekend when I imagine there is more open. We went mid-week. I do not regret going, to the contrary, that was a picture of everyday life in that town and not an instagram tourist scene, but the visit was impacted by the steady rain and gray skies.

I agree. The main attraction are the tuna shops, Campisi and Adelfio, and the piazza. The beach, not so much.
I would, however, not have lunch there as the places on the piazza have reputations as being very tourist oriented.
There's not much there in the town and the outskirts of built-up with vacation homes, many in ugly modern buildings.
When we were there last, during September, it was also pretty shut up.

If you want lunch around there, I'd be sure to head for SCALA in Porto Palo di Capo Pessaro. This is a fabulous place patronized mostly by locals, with little English spoken but the seafood is divine and very reasonably priced. They are legendary for their lobster spaghetti (book this when you book the table if you want it) but everything is good. It's totally plain, no decor at all. I love that place!!! The town is "real, " not prettified.

Our driver, Dario Caffiso from Ragusa, (highly recommended) told us that Mick Jagger has a home outside the town, but who knows how true this is..??

Thank you for the feedback! All very helpful. Interesting about Mick Jagger, haha.

I may be looking for information soon on Noto but I'll post that as a separate discussion as more people have likely been there. Thanks again.
