I wonder between this 2 which one is a better option to visit. Does Cisternino similar with Locorotondo or Ostuni with its white-washed buildings and quaint little alleys. Martina Franca looks pretty big , its alleys are of normal baroque alleys could be found in many cities but the one that attracts me is its Piazza Maria Immacolata.
We just stayed in the oldest part of Ostuni for a week and in a trullo just outside of Cisternino for a week ---- we love both towns and prefer them to Locorotondo and Martina Franca, which we have visited twice each.
Maybe this is an obvious thing to say, but do not be dismayed by the outskirts of any town in Puglia --- once you get to the historic center you will be delighted.
I thought the outskirts would be wonderful with the valley-like topography?
Did you try the bombettes? I only have time for the lunch. Is it true for those BBQ restaurants to only open from 9-12pm in the morning before riposi/siesta?
The countryside is lovely, and chockfull of trulli, but the newer buildings and businesses that surround the historical center are what can look a bit discouraging. I sort of enjoy seeing regular Italian life in the outskirts, but a month ago, when we took our son and daughter-in-law to Puglia with us, they seemed as though they expected the whole town to be like the charming centro storico.
