Marriott Courtyard Central Park Rome - How to get Downtown??

Hello, I'm getting a bit nervous about our choice of hotels in Rome! We had Marriott Points so we used them for the Courtyard Central Park Rome. From what I'm reading, this is really outside of the city and very hard to get to any of the touristy areas. Has anyone stayed here? If so, do you have a recommendation on how to get to the city center? I could use details! :) Thank you!

I think they have a shuttle service that will take you into the center of Rome area. I have neighbors who just stayed at the Hyatt or Hilton outside of Rome and they used the shuttle each day to get into town.
You might check with your hotel to make sure....

No need to be nervous. According to the Marriott website, you are 1/10 of a mile away from a metro stop and from there you are a few stops away from all the action. The metro stop is called Barberini. It is only one stop away from the Spanish Steps (Spagna) which is the end of the RS self guided walking tour. Only two stops away from Termini train station for day trips, airport train, or transfer to the only other subway line in Rome. From there you could either go a couple more stops to the Coloseum or take a the bus from the Termini to the Vatican. There is a really good description in the RS guidebook about all the transportation options. The key thing is it all originates at the Termini station and your hotel is only a few metro stops away. You are actually in a really good spot and with the price being $0, I would not change a thing. Have a great trip!!

Your hotel is not near a metro stop. It's near a train stop. It's not near the Piazza Barberini. That is a different Marriott. The previous poster is talking about the Marriott Grand hotel Flora which is on the Via Veneto. Donna

If it's not too late, I would find lodging in a more central area. As with every place in Italy, for us wandering the neighborhoods in the evening is almost always a highlight and a huge part of the charm of that country. If you can't switch, then make it work for you. And, yes, taxis are a pretty decent bargain in Rome. Others coming to this topic can learn from your experience to always double check where a place is before committing to it. This hotel is a great example. The name sure makes it sound as if it's in a central location, and their website's description of their location is very misleading.

You are correct that your hotel is in the outskirts of town (not the location the previous poster alluded to, which is the much nicer Marriott right in center of town, and thus, much more expensive/points). We considered using our points for this hotel, but due to its location (and the fact that I did not have enough points for the better location), we decided to pay for an apartment right in center of town instead. I did ask the hotel prior to changing our minds what our options were regarding transportation into town. They mentioned that they have a frequent shuttle that took guests to the metro stop close to Vatican City (cannot recall the specifics now). From there, you can take metro to other areas. So, you do have an option, however, it isn't the most convenient of options. If you are opting to get the Roma Pass (recommended), then you have public transport covered under that. I used Google map while talking to the hotel to get a feel for where all was located. Simply put in their address (from Marriott website) and then put in the metro stop they mentioned (Google map will figure it out for you). Study the metro in Rome (pretty easy) and you should be okay should you decide to stay there. However, this was two-years ago, so please call them for the most up-to-date option. How many nights are you in Rome? Would it be worth spending a few hundred to get a more conveniently located hotel room and save your points for another time? I have no opinion on this. Only you guys can decide that one. I am sure that regardless, you will have a wonderful time!

Michael and Sherry,
I spent a semester at a university very close to there about 10 years ago (John Felice Rome Center, affiliated with Loyola). So I am pretty familiar with that area or at least I was ten years ago. We drove by your hotel all of the time. The hotel looks beautiful and is in a beautiful area. It sort of sits on the top of a hill so I bet there are some beautiful views. It certainly isn't as convenient as being in the city center but definitely doable. And you may find you appreciate the quiet, the views, and some of the neighborhood restaurants. A lovely part of Rome you wouldn't have seen otherwise. I suspect your hotel would have a shuttle. If it does not-there are several bus lines that run into the city, about 15 minute ride from your stop. I believe they were the 990 and the 99n for late at night. The closest site to you is going to be the Vatican. From the Vatican, you can walk or hop on the metro. The end of the line for those buses will also take you about a 5-10 minute walk to Piazza Navona (across the Tiber, gorgeous views of St. Peters). Once you get to the city center, all of the things you will want to see are within walking distance. Alternatively- have the hotel call you a taxi. We used to do it all of the time when we were going out at night. I don't remember exactly what the prices were. But I was a college student, saving money for my weekend trips, and I would not have spent an exorbitant amount on a taxi. You will have a great time!

Kristen makes a good point. Taxis in Rome were very reasonable, so that would be another good option for a end-of-day return to your hotel room.

One great thing about Marriott points, they normally allow you to cancel without penalty until 6pm on the day of arrival. Your hotel may be a bit inconvenient but it is free and it sounds nice. It just requires
a bit more planning.

Sorry for the incorrect information. I must have looked at the wrong dot on them Marriott map. However, I found this trip advisor thread from several people who stayed at that hotel and they seem to describe a rather hassle free way into town. Yes, it is going to take you more time so you will have to weigh that time into how many points it would cost you to upgrade to the Boscolo Palace Roma location I was describing before. If you are the kind of travelor that likes to go back to the hotel during the day then maybe you should switch but if you head out in the morning and don't return until after dinner and you are done for the day, then maybe the extra travel time will be worth it. Good luck!! http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g187791-d229094-r131473367-Courtyard_Rome_Central_Park-Rome_Lazio.html
