Marco Polo to Venice - which one faster?

My Airbnb is around a five minute walk from the main train station. Cannaregio neighborhood.

Want to get to my Airbnb as fast as possible. Bus or vaporetto?

There are no vaporettos from the airport, only the Alilaguna bus boat (or expensive water taxis). Bus will get you to Piazzale Roma, walk over bridge to Santa Lucia station and to your Abnb it you have manageable luggage. The buses are right outside the airport door. The boats are 500 yds from the airport, but there is a moving walkway on the skybridge.

If speed is important, take a land taxi to P. Roma and walk from there. The buses we've taken haven't been that fast.

Buses take 30 minutes or less if you take the ATVO bus. But yes, a land taxi will beat it and be able to take you immediately rather than wait 10 minutes or so for the next bus.

Here's the Orange line timetable - it runs about every half hour and is 41 minutes to Guglie and 50 minutes to San Stae the stops closest to the train station.

Guglie is across the canal north of the train station and San Stae is on the main island north of the train station. Depending which direction your place is from the station and the scheduled time this may or may not be a competitive option to the bus. The bus will probably be consistently faster.

The other Alilaguna lines get to the train station the long way and won't help you.

Hope that helps,

The ATVO buses go every 30 minutes and take 20 minutes to get to Piazzale Roma. Cost is 10 EUR
The ACTV buses go every 15 minutes and take 24 minutes to get to Piazzale Roma. Cost is 10 EUR
A land taxi will take you immediately to Piazzale Roma in 20 minutes or less. Cost will be about 40 EUR
Beside the Alilaguna schedule provided, figure at least 10 minutes to get to the dock from the airport. Cost is 15 EUR
A private water taxi will take 20 to 30 minutes to get you as close as possible to your Airbnb. Cost will be about 140 EUR

Is your need for speed because your Airbnb host is meeting you at a specific time? Can you guarantee your plane lands on time and you can get off in a timely manner? Will your luggage have no issues? Will you have to pass through Schengen Immigration?

As you can see from the schedule, The Alilaguna take 41 minutes to Guglie. So worst case, it takes 10 minutes to get to the dock, and you just missed the boat, so you wait another 30 minutes for the next one, then 40 minutes to get to Guglie, so it could take an hour and 20 minutes, or you could luck out and catch it, then it takes 50 minutes. The video has a few inaccuracies, like the departure times are every 30 minutes, not every hour, and the bus cost, but then they are raising prices constantly. The higher they raise the prices, the more people want to go.
