I’m looking for advice on the best way to travel from Marco Polo Airport to Padova. I see there are trains and buses. Do you take a bus to the train? Or is it better to take a cab? Thanks!
The bus to Venezia Maestre is 8 euros pp. catch it in front of the terminal. Train Venezia Maestre to Padova takes about 30 minutes.
So a bus to the train station? And then train to Padova?
Do you need to buy bus tickets in advance?
Take the bus to Padova, as it is direct and fairly frequent. Buy ticket at the desk outside of arrivals and the bus leaves from outside the airport door. Store luggage under the bus.
If you take the bus to Mestre, beside the 8 EUR bus fare there is another 3.60 EUR for the regional train ticket, plus walking from the bus stop to the station with your luggage, buying a ticket, then walking to the platform.
The bus goes direct from the airport to the Padova bus station. No need to buy in advance.
The Marco Polo bus stop is right outside arrivals, at ground level. There are vending machines for tickets. You want a bus marked Mestre, and that goes to Mestre station. Buy train tickets for Padova from vending machine at station.
If you are not pressed for time, you could get a glimpse of Venice by taking a bus to Piazle Roma in Venice from Marco Polo, and then walk across the Calatrava bridge to the Venezia SL station to get the Padova train. That would “waste” an hour or so.
Thanks for the options!
We chose to use the bus and it worked out very well. Bear left as you leave arrivals at VCE. There is a ticket counter and also ticket machines. Once you step outside bear left again and you will see a few shelters that have designated destinations posted.
Make sure to research the tram line for the stop closest to your accommodations. Catch the tram just to the right in front of the train station, which is just east of the bus station.
