Marco Polo to Fondamente Nove, Cash Machines, Vaporetto Passes

Our flight arrives in Venice at 9:10 on a Sunday morning and we need to get from the airport to Fondamente Nove. It looks like there is a vaporetto or ferry from the airport to Fondamente Nove. What are the exact logistics? Do we walk from the airport to the ferry stop? Can we purchase vaporetto passes before getting on the ferry there?

We arrive in Venice on a Monday and leave early Friday from the car rental near the train station. That is a bit far to walk with our luggage so we would probably take a vaporetto there. What would be the kind of pass to buy to include those days? We could just do a single pass on Friday if necessary.

Cash Machines: We need to pay for our lodging upon arrival and would like to pay them cash. Several possibilities: I could get cash here from AAA or my bank before we leave; I could wait and use a cash machine at Marco Polo airport; or I could find a cash machine in Venice.

Any suggestions?

Thanks --- Bob

I'll address just the cash issue. If I needed a lump sum on arrival, it would be so much easier to bring it with me. It's easy enough to find which branches of your home bank carry international currency, and the fee is probably no higher than you would find on arrival. It would be an unpleasant surprise to find your cash limit at the airport ATM was lower than you expected, or worse, that the ATM wasn't working. ATMs are easy enough to find in Venice, but my jet lagged self would not like to be hunting one down on arrival. Enjoy Venice. It's my favorite city in the world!

The boat from the airport to Fondemente Nova is not technically a vaporetto but an Alilaguna boat, a totally separate company. You can buy your ticket(s) in the airport arrivals area, then walk out to the dock and board the "B" Blue boat. Stops once at Murano then to Fondemente Nove.
You probably can't get more than 300-500 EUR out of a cash machine in one day. So see if you can pay it off in installments. How much? Hate walking around with over 1000 EUR.

Last year we also arrived at Marco Polo, going to Fondemonte Nove. We took the Alilaguna blue line, as suggested. It was 15 euros each. As you exit the airport watch carefully for the signs, there is a lot of construction (we flew out of there this year.) It's about a 10 minute walk to the docks, but lots of other people are heading that way, so pretty easy to find. We left from the train station and took a vaporetto from Fondemonte Nove.
We also needed cash this year upon arrival, and chose to get it from our bank at home (Wells Fargo has decent exchange rates.) We didn't have to worry about finding a bank machine right off.

You say you will, "leave early Friday from the car rental near the train station." That's a bit confusing since there is no car rental near the Venice train station (Santa Lucia). All Venice car rentals pickup/drop-off is located at Piazzale Roma, which you can get to from Fondamente Nove by vaporetto.

Most checking accounts have a low daily ATM withdrawal limit (such as $300), which you can ask them to raise for the duration of your trip. The Deutsche Bank location near San Marco will give you as much cash as your home bank allows.
