We are on the 2 week Small Village tour in fall of 2023 and wondering about costs of cabs and ease of obtaining one at the Marco Polo airport. Any advice?
Have you spent any time in Venice? When we did that tour a couple of years ago we arrived early and spent three nights in Venice. Then we took the train to Padua. BTW, we LOVED the Small Villages tour!
Pretty sure there is a bus from airport to Padova or bus to Mestre then train but you really should spend some time in Venice first
Cabs will be readily available at airport
It’s about 40 min drive , not sure if there is a fixed rate to Padova but shouldn’t be much more than 50-60 euros
Marco Polo to Padua (Padova) is pretty easy. Bus ride from airport to Venezia Mestre Station (Venice headland) by ATVO 17 minutes running every 30. And then a quick train ride to Padua 15-30 minutes (depending on train) with some train going every couple of minutes. Unless you're wrestling a bunch of bags - that's a different discussion - this should be pretty straightforward.
Cabs in and around the airport seem really expensive. A ride to Mestre (a 17 minute bus ride) is 35€. I'll include the website to the taxi service that serves Marco Polo - they're estimated fare to Padua is >115€. You might be able to get a taxi from the airport or you might have to call to arrange a taxi willing to take you that far.

You may be able to contact them and confirm details but given the hassle and the cost I would recommend doing the bus and train option. Maybe if you have 3 or 4 people the cost will start to balance out some, but handling buses and trains is such a fundamental skill for European travel I'd say tackle it - even jet lagged.
Have a great trip,

Look at the Venice Airport website for all sorts of info on getting to towns from the airport. Just remember to change the language to English! The easiest and quickest way to get to Padua from the airport is by bus. There is a bus that leaves at 10 mins and 40 minutes to the hour. Takes just over an hour. To get there. Cost is €10,00 if purchased at the airport kiosk or €12.50 from the driver. Includes one piece of baggage per passenger.
I’d recommend, if time permits a couple of days acclimation in Venice, shame to fly in there and not see any of it except the stop at the bus station in Venice en route to Padua!
Wow had no idea a cab would be that much
Consider adding several days in Venice. Village Italy was our first RS tour..loved it so much we did it again with friends! But we regretted missing Venice the first time…we took a bus directly to Padua from Marco Polo…very easy to find the kiosk at the airport. The second time we took a shared water taxi into Venice, spent a few wonderful days, then took the train to Padua. So much better! And very easy by train to Padua.
I just finished the wonderful tour of Villages of Italy. My suggestion is to take the bus from the airport to Padua unless you are planning to stay in Venice. The bus is cheap, easy to find, and takes you directly to the train station in Padua after one stop in Venice. Even jet-lagged, it's quite manageable. If you don't decide to add nights in Venice, going to Venice for a day trip is quick and easy from Padua on a local train.
We took a bus from Padova to VCE direct quick and easy. I’m sure they go the other way. Check the Marco Polo web site.
