Marco Polo airport to Bolzano

Due to the potential Air Canada strike on September 17th, I’ve had to cancel our flight to Venice (fully refunded) and have booked on Lufthansa. Our new arrival time is at 13:55 on September 18th. As the rest of our trip has been fully booked for months we are now travelling to Bolzano much later in the day than originally thought. From what I can figure out, we first take a bus from the airport to Mestre Stazione then a train to Verona Porta Nuova then another train to Bolzano. Do we need to book tickets for the train in advance or can we buy them when we get to the train station? From what I see it appears that there are two different types of trains so will we need to buy the tickets separately? Thanks in advance.

Buy one ticket to cover the connection in Verona. I find it’s less expensive to buy them beforehand if you can commit to the time. Book directly with trenitalia or Italo in case you need to change or make adjustments. The train apps are great. You can add the tix to your apple wallet.
I took train from Venice Santa Lucia station on the “island” and then connected in Verona for train to Bolzano. I took the bus up to Castelrotto from there. It was all very smooth but pay attention to your connecting platforms as they can change at the last minute!
Safe travels!!

Thanks for the advice. I’ll add the app to my phone and book the tickets tomorrow. I’ll pick a train departure time that leaves us plenty of time to get from the airport and is changeable/ refundable in case we miss the airline connection in Frankfurt.
