Marco Polo airport

My flight leaves at 10:30 AM on a Thursday in October. Do I need to arrive at the airport 2 hours early?

Where are you flying to and what airline?

In general, yes, 2 hours for an intraEuropean flight and 3 hours for an international departure.

Have you read something that indicates less time is needed?

I would go for at least 2 hours.

Plus, I'll have to tell you it always seems like transport in Venice takes longer than I think it will. I know you were asking about the vaporetto on your other thread so not sure what your transportation plan is for getting to the airport.

It's an intra Schengen flight.

It is equivalent to a domestic flight in the US, except that in Europe, especially a small size airport like VCE, security lines are not as long because there is no US Department of Homeland Security and Border Protection that wants you to remove your shoes, your belts, your underwear, and take you aside to pat you down, to make America Safe Again.

If you are the type that likes to be at the airport 2 hours before for a domestic flight, go 2 hours before.

In Italy, even in chaotic Rome Fiumicino, you don't need that long.

Can you take a vaporetto to the airport and if so, can you use the 48 hour pass for the fare.

I see there is a Alilaguna water bus that is available also.

What is the difference between using one or the other or is only the Alilaguna option available.

No, no. None of the vaporetto lines go to the airport. But, your 48 hour pass, if you have added the airport adder can take you to the Piazzale Roma vaporetto stop where you can board (the correct) land bus to the airport.

That is a private company. I never use them anymore because the passenger cabin is very low down with very small windows which are often steamed up and encrusted with salt so the view is awful, the seats are uncomfortable and the noise and fumes are unpleasant. It is also very slow, and more expensive than the vaporetto / bus combination above which gives you a nice final ride up the Grand Canal.

We flew out of Venice in June and two hours is the minimum to catch a flight. Lots of flights leaving at the same time. It may be small but it's kind of chaotic.
