We are planning a trip to Naples, the Amalfi coast and Rome March 22 - April 8. We are tied to this time because of Spring Break. (We did a trip to Venice-Florence-Rome at this same time frame and had amazing weather). We have found accommodations for Sorrento, Amalfi, Naples and Rome but are having a hard time finding anything in Positano that is open before April. Any suggestions for hotels that would be open in Positano the end of March?
Good luck. We visited Positano from Sorrento by bus early March this year, and it was still buttoned up pretty good. Found one cafe up by the Sponda bus stop that was fabulous, but we lucked into that.
I'm thinking you had better stay somewhere else, and daytrip it to Positano, which is drop-dead beautiful no matter what time of year. It's not just about the weather. Traditionally, these A.C. towns open up not long after Easter, which in 2018 is April 1, so you might luck out your last week.
My suggestion is substitute Capri for Positano, it is much easier to travel to in the off season by direct ferry and the tropical island location makes it warmer and quite pleasant any time of year. You don't want to go all the way down to Positano in the off season, it just will not have any atmosphere to offer. You will be smart to enjoy Capri before the crowds rush in after Easter and beyond! :) I have been all over Campania many times in and off season. You will find Capri ( or Anacapri) very affordable in March.
Palm Sunday is March 25, Easter Sunday is April 1 (no joke). Easter week is usually the "opening of the season" on the A/C. It's very possible that the Positano innkeepers haven't started planning their 2018 calendar yet, but will be open that week. Give them a month or so and try again. In fact, I'm more surprised that you've been able to find accommodations a year in advance at all.
Thanks for your reply Chani, it gives me hope. I have my heart set on spending at least one night in Positano - it looks so magical. I would be ok if nothing was open except one cafe. I am there to take in the amazing view and hopefully watch a sunset! We are a group of six, my husband, parents and 2 kids so finding accommodations for a larger group can be a little tricky so I have to book early. The B&B that we booked in Naples has only 3 rooms (we need 2) and we are there during Easter, so I booked it as soon as the site allowed it. The hotel that I want to stay in Amalfi has only 10 rooms and only a few will accommodate a triple, so I booked that one too :)
Have you looked at apartments? They give you much more space, and are usually less expensive than two rooms.
